ACW | November 3, 2026 — Pope Leo XIV will visit Uruguay, Argentina and Peru from November 6 to 17, the Holy See Press Office said on Tuesday as it presented the 12-day apostolic journey to journalists.

Press Office Director Matteo Bruni said the trip includes about a dozen flights and visits to ten cities, with the pope expected to give around 40 addresses, all in Spanish, Vatican News reported.

The pope will be in Uruguay from November 6 to 8, visiting Montevideo, Paysandú and Florida, the first papal visit since St. John Paul II's trip in 1988.

He will then visit Buenos Aires, Córdoba and Luján in Argentina, the late Pope Francis's homeland, from November 8 to 11, the first papal visit there since 1987. The final leg, in Peru from November 11 to 17, takes in Lima, Chiclayo, Cusco and Pucallpa, where Leo served for years as a missionary and pastor.

The program includes meetings with victims of clerical sexual abuse, prisoners and Augustinian communities, and visits to places hit by environmental exploitation, the press office said. Dicastery for Communication Prefect Maria Montserrat Alvarado said the pope "personally confirmed this trip, with no changes." The press office said he is in good health.

Background: Alvarado became the first laywoman to head the Vatican's communications dicastery on November 1; read ACW's report. The archbishop of Cusco died days before the visit; ACW's report.

Why it matters: It is the first papal visit to Argentina in nearly four decades and to Uruguay since 1988, according to Vatican News, with meetings with local churches, civil authorities and prisoners in all three countries.

ACW will continue to follow this story.
