ACW | October 27, 2026 — The Holy See Press Office confirmed on Monday, 26 October, that Pope Leo XIV will make an apostolic journey to Uruguay, Argentina and Peru from 6 to 17 November 2026.

According to the official Vatican programme, the Pope leaves Rome for Montevideo on 6 November and returns on 17 November. He will be in Uruguay from 6 to 8 November, Argentina from 8 to 11 November and Peru from 11 to 16 November.

The programme lists Masses in Uruguay and Argentina, meetings with religious leaders and the university community in Buenos Aires, and a visit to a prison complex. In Peru it includes a meeting with Amazonian peoples in Pucallpa.

In the statement, Pope Leo said he is "looking forward to returning to the continent where I've experienced so many moments of my life", and hopes the journey will be "an occasion for us to open our hearts to one another".

Vatican News reports the Pope underwent surgery on 13 October that was "successful and without complications". His doctors say no further oncological treatment is needed, and Dr. Luigi Carbone sees no contraindication to the trip.

Background: The Vatican earlier cancelled the Pope's Assisi visit to aid his recovery. The Latin America journey was first announced in August 2026.
