ACW | October 27, 2026 — Afghans in US immigration detention are being notified of plans to deport them to Pakistan, Bloomberg Law reported on Monday, October 26, citing a federal official, lawyers and advocacy groups.
The possible flight has not been announced and is expected to leave "in the coming weeks," the outlet said.
AfghanEvac, an organisation that supports Afghans who worked with US forces, said immigration officers have told relatives of Afghans who worked with the US military before the fall of Kabul that they will be on the flight, according to Bloomberg Law.
Hasht-e Subh, summarising the Bloomberg report, says AfghanEvac has received at least 30 reports of possible transfers from 15 detention centres in 11 US states since October 14, and that some detainees were told they would be sent to Pakistan or Afghanistan. ACW could not check these figures in the paywalled Bloomberg Law text.
AfghanEvac has asked the US government to clarify the destination and to let detainees raise the dangers they could face in Afghanistan before any transfer. No response from US or Pakistani authorities appears in published reports. This report has not yet been confirmed by other sources.
Background: On October 22, UN experts urged European states not to send Afghans back to danger, as ACW reported in UN experts urge EU states not to deport Afghans to danger.
Why it matters: Deporting Afghans to a third country or to Afghanistan can leave people at risk because of their faith, beliefs or gender without protection; AfghanEvac says detainees should be able to raise such risks before any transfer.
ACW will continue to follow this story.
