ACW | October 27, 2026 — Aid to the Church in Need (ACN) UK said in a new report that conditions for Christians worsened in 55% of the 18 countries of concern it studied.

The report is titled "Persecuted and Forgotten? A report on Christians oppressed for their faith 2024–2026." On its report page, ACN says authoritarian control is rising and Christians face restrictions, arrests and surveillance.

The charity says extremist violence has spread and millions of people have been displaced. The report highlights six countries: Burkina Faso, China, India, Nigeria, Pakistan and Syria.

ACN writes that extremist groups are killing Christians and displacing millions in Nigeria. In Pakistan, it says, Christian girls and young women face abduction, forced conversion and forced marriage.

Crux reported that John Pontifex, ACN UK's head of press and public affairs, asked: "What will it take for the world to act?" According to Crux, conditions worsened in 10 of the 18 countries.

Background: ACW earlier reported on another monitor's findings from Syria: Syria: five Christians killed in three months, CSI report says.

Why it matters: ACN says restrictions, arrests and surveillance of Christians are increasing, a trend that bears directly on freedom of religion or belief.

ACW will continue to follow this story.
