Christian world | A new wave of attacks in north-east Nigeria
ACW | 18 October 2026 — Boko Haram militants destroyed a church in Nigeria's Adamawa State on 8 October and displaced the Christians of eight villages, local outlet TruthNigeria reports.
The church belonged to Ekklesiyar Yan'uwa a Nigeria (EYN), affiliated with the Church of the Brethren, in the Hong area. According to TruthNigeria, the eight villages were entirely Christian before the attacks.
Rev. Mannaseh Mbafe, secretary of the Christian Association of Nigeria in Hong, told the outlet the church was destroyed and "thousands have been displaced." A survivor said attackers had killed dozens of Christians since 1 October and abducted students and other residents.
This report has not yet been confirmed by other sources. The exact numbers of people killed and abducted are unclear, and Nigerian officials have not commented on the attacks.
Why it matters: Nigeria ranks among the most dangerous countries for Christians in international persecution indexes, and attacks on churches and Christian villages in the north have become a recurring pattern.
ACW will continue to follow this story.
