ACW | November 7, 2026 — A man shot his wife dead in Jalalabad's third district on Saturday, Nov. 7, Sayed Tayeb Hammad, spokesman for the Taliban's security command in Nangarhar province, told Rukhshana Media.

The woman was shot in front of her home, the spokesman said. Hammad said Taliban authorities are searching for her husband to arrest him.

The motive, and the woman's identity and age, are not known, Rukhshana reported. The report has not been confirmed by other sources.

Background: At least 26 women and girls have been killed by family members in Afghanistan since the start of 2026, according to Rukhshana's count. On Nov. 1, ACW reported that, according to the Taliban, a woman was beaten to death by her husband in Samangan.

Why it matters: Killings of women and girls by relatives have risen sharply under Taliban rule, and many cases go unreported because of Taliban restrictions on the media, Rukhshana said.

ACW will continue to follow this story.
